Our take
Traditional payments methods such as cash, cheques and credit cards are outdated in a world crowded with crypto alternatives. Celo is global payments infrastructure with the aims of making financial tools accessible to anyone with a mobile phone. cLabs is a member of the Alliance for Prosperity and part of the community working on Celo.
The cLabs blockchain team makes improvements to the celo-blockchain. The goal is for financial activity to become accessible to anyone globally, which is attributed to the ease of making payments which can be sent to and from any phone number in the world. Further to basic payments, the company can support the advancement of decentralized applications on its blockchain. The platform allows anyone to contribute to a community’s universal basic income scheme, and supports a crowdfunding platform for social causes.
The mobile-first platform has over 1 million wallet addresses which are spread over 113 countries. With its unique service that allows anyone with a mobile phone to utilise its platform, the company will hope to distinguish itself in the crowded crypto payments market.
