Our take

Ecoligo provides businesses with solar-as-a-service in developing markets, using crowdfunding to finance its projects. The dual-purpose business model is an interesting one, on one hand bringing renewable solutions to businesses who would not be able to afford them and helping the local economy, while offering low buy-ins for grassroots investors.

Renewable energy crowdfunding and micro-investments have been growing in popularity for the last few years as it allows people to buy a stake in a community’s well being for a future profit.

While it will take quite some time to begin to disrupt the major energy providers, the fact that companies like ecoligo are targeting emerging economies in East Africa and Southeast Asia could see them get ahead.

The company was founded and is led by a pair of nearly twenty year veterans in the energy industry, and with financial backing from ecological investment specialists Saxovent, the future looks promising.
