Our take

There has been a substantial rise in contactless payments in recent years, limited seating arrangements, and remote administrative work within the hospitality industry. Digital POS systems have presented themselves as useful tools to handle these changes, but existing software is generally purpose-specific and is only affordable to large businesses.

Orderbird provides a digital POS system for the European hospitality industry, integrating cash register features, contactless card payment functionality, and financial compliance features within an iPad application. The company also provides additional features such as reservation and waiting list management software, in addition to “practice mode” features for staff training.

Various other startups are tackling the urgent need for digital solutions within the hospitality industry, but Orderbird has taken a unique approach by providing a service that covers multiple challenges and is affordable and convenient to any business size. By providing various pricing tiers, the company serves businesses from food trucks to large restaurant chains, and they are focused on expanding into new markets moving forwards.

Orderbird was acquired by Italian fintech company Nexi in May 2022, a move that will propel both companies toward sustainable futures.
