seaV's mission is to empower seafarers using ship tracking tools to accurately record and showcase their experience, and manage their career in the increasingly data-driven shipping industry.
The last few years have proven disruptive for the seafaring community, with many left stranded or out of work, but it’s brought to light the potentially solitary work conditions and rich community of a sector that many overlook. It’s timely, then, that the seafaring community is being offered the on-shore digital transformation treatment in the form of new community platform seaV.
The idea is to replace paper employment records with a data-rich AIS tracking app, allowing users to more easily showcase their professional seafaring experience in real time. The platform additionally adds highly interactive features to these records, creating a facebook-like interface that better facilitates engagement with on-ship communities and those on shore.
Seafarer-specific platforms focusing on community or jobseeking exist already in the form of sites like Sea Folks of My Ship. SeaV, however, has brought this concept into a more contemporary, intuitive, and streamlined format, whilst also allowing for better engagement from non-seafaring participants. It’s an engaging product that’s receiving some attention in the industry and if it takes off, it should make a substantial contribution to those working in it.
