Company mission

To accelerate chance social encounters at hyperlocal venues.

Our take

Making friends as an adult isn't an easy feat, especially in a large city. While it's easy enough to find people to chat with over a dating app or hobby group, no real options exists for platonic meetups in a social setting. Enter 222, a startup promising "an exploration in serendipity" by matching people to events, and to each other, based on an AI-driven matchmaking system.

Other apps have trod this ground before - Tinder and Facebook have tried matching people to social events, and PartyWith previously attempted something similar but wasn't successful. But 222's tight focus on Gen Z (27 is the maximum age for app users) and the Los Angeles social scene allows it to provide experiences tailored precisely for its user base. This approach has been popular and has seen signups increasing by 30% month on month, but it remains to be seen how 222 intends to scale to provide experiences beyond its home city.

222 recently completed a seed funding round led by General Catalyst. It is using this investment to scale up its core team, increase its range of event offerings and to further develop its platform. If it can grow beyond its local scene it seems likely to develop into a significant business in the social events space.
