Our take

Today, people are keen to know whether they are getting the best deal from their employee experience. Breakroom was developed to let people compare their hourly job to other jobs across the UK, highlighting things like how many hours they could get, how stressful the job is, or whether it's easy to fit around childcare.

One of a number of recruitment-focussed startups, Breakroom faces a lot of competition from peers, as well as from bigger players such as Indeed and Glassdoor. However, its focus on lower-wage, large-employer sectors such as retail, delivery companies and supermarket work do allow it to stand out.

In 2024, the company was acquired by leading online employment marketplace ZipRecruiter. This will bring Breakroom's innovative employer review platform to the US, empowering many more job seekers with authentic and comparable insights.
