The NHS was supposed to go paperless by 2020. Overloaded systems riddled with room for error were in dire need of an overhaul - and although this date has been pushed back a decade, it highlights the increased attention the medical sector is paying towards systemic efficiencies. Semble (previously Heydoc) is one of the startups stepping in to try and fix the problem. Semble's integrated clinical system aims to help practices manage patient data and streamline their administration and operations.
Semble is not the only one in the market, however - Medefer offers a similar system, but is focused predominantly on NHS customers. Semble's focus on private hospitals and clinics may well work to its advantage, given the difficulties the NHS faces in integrating new administrative technologies. Plus, more generally, the company's cloud-based system aligns the company with the broader trend towards cloud-based operations.
The co-founders previously founded and successfully sold takeaway app Orogo to Just Eat, so are practiced in managing and scaling competitive startups. This, and a good injection of recent funding, should put Semble in good stead to carry out its planned international expansion.
