Who you are

It’s a great fit for someone with strong CS fundamentals who’s eager to grow in a collaborative, real-world systems engineering environment
Strong computer science fundamentals (e.g., operating systems, networking, data structures)
Familiarity with Linux system internals (file systems, processes, networking)
Scripting experience in Bash, Python, or similar language
Interest in infrastructure, automation, and systems reliability
Self-motivated, curious, and capable of learning new technologies quickly
Clear, friendly communicator and strong collaborator
Must be available for onsite work at our Redwood City, CA office
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or currently pursuing such a degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s)
Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer. The employee routinely is required to sit; stand, walk; talk and hear; use hands to keyboard
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

What the job involves

We’re looking for a Systems Engineering Intern to join our Infrastructure & DevOps team at our Redwood City, CA office
This is a hands-on opportunity to work with modern systems tools like Kubernetes, Terraform, and Bazel, while contributing to automation, scalability, and developer tooling
This full-time, in-person internship runs for 3 months with the potential for extension or full-time hire based on performance and team needs
Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform
Support deployment and management of Kubernetes services and tooling
Extend internal build and test workflows powered by Bazel
Write and improve internal tools and automation scripts using Bash, Python, or Rust
Contribute to infrastructure projects that improve scalability, observability, and developer experience
Participate in documenting internal systems, tools, and best practices
Performs other related duties as assigned

Our take

Many restaurants are struggling to keep up with service demands due to a lack of staff and rising costs. Traditional staffing methods are no longer enough to handle the fast pace and high expectations, creating a need for new, tech-driven solutions.

To solve this, Bear Robotics created AI-powered server robots called Servi. These robots move around the restaurant, delivering food and drinks to customers, reducing the workload on human staff. By handling routine tasks, they free up employees to focus on more important duties, improving services.

Servi robots have been successfully used in restaurants in the US, South Korea, and Japan, showing their growing importance in the industry. Alongside this success, is the recent closure of a funding round which will help Bear Robotics improve its robotics technology and explore new uses beyond their current models. As demand for AI and robotics increases, Bear Robotics is ready to take on the market and find new opportunities in service automation.
