Who you are
- Current master’s student in Business, Commerce, Communication or a related field, ideally in a top business school, in your last year before graduation
- Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken
- A previous successful experience in community engagement, account management, or event management
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple conversations across various platforms
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Passionate about Airbnb’s mission to create belonging and economic opportunity for hosts
- Familiarity with Salesforce, Google Suite, Facebook Groups is a plus
What the job involves
- Airbnb is seeking a Community Engagement Intern to join the Homes Community Team for a 6-month internship
- This team is part of the wider Airbnb Community Team that supports our global community of Homes, Experiences and Services hosts - one of Airbnb’s most precious assets
- We are looking for an intern to support the operations of our Homes Host Community strategy in the Northern regions of France
- You will regionally implement and iterate on Community programs that engage Hosts at scale, such as the Host Clubs program and Host events, while also innovating and testing new methods that can influence and strengthen the global community strategy
- In this role, you’ll be responsible for balancing the needs of our Hosting Community with those of Airbnb
- You will work closely with and report to the Senior Community Engagement Manager for France and build collaborative relationships with the relevant Policy Managers, Market Managers, and central Community team to support Homes hosts in the region
- This includes fostering shared virtual and physical gatherings that build Host-to-Host connection and learning
- As an intern, you’ll be integrated into a team where you’ll contribute to challenging projects. Your manager, team, and our incredible employee community will strive to be superhosts to you during the summer
- We provide the support, mentorship, fun, and real world experience needed to accelerate your learning and make a real impact on our product, as Airbnb revolutionizes connection, belonging, and travel
- Collaborate with multiple team members to achieve project milestones
- Communicate with stakeholders across different teams to provide project updates
- Seek and provide feedback throughout the internship
- Actively participate in and contribute to the Home Community Team and broader Airbnb community
- Taking an active part in Community support, growth and engagement for your local Host Community
- Executing local Community Programs with clear communication, efficient resource usage, and a deep focus on overall project execution
- Support the team in recruiting, onboarding and managing new Community Leaders
- Growing Host representation in Host Clubs
- Help the team provide coaching to the local Homes Community Leaders, while also remediating and replacing inactive Leaders
- Support Community Leaders to develop and test region-specific programs that foster community connections for homes hosts at scale
- Support Community Leaders education on all significant product changes and cascading feedback on product and policy to the relevant internal stakeholders
- Support effective in-person and online Host Club meetups, to foster connection and growth in the Homes host community
Our take
When Airbnb was originally founded, the product helped customers book air mattresses on people's apartment floors. Since then, Airbnb has had over a billion customers hosted through its platform. With more than 4 million registered hosts worldwide, it has grown into a major player in the hospitality sector.
Airbnb has been successful in disrupting the traditional holiday lettings sector. Before it existed accommodation was limited to hotels and bed and breakfasts, but Airbnb has mainstreamed the idea of renting out spare rooms or even entire homes. It has created a new sector of hosts purchasing properties to rent out on the platform and provides a level of flexibility and a range of offerings not previously possible for travelers.
Perhaps a victim of its own success, by 2022 supply of Airbnb-listed properties began to outstrip demand in some markets, as hosts overestimated the appetite for domestic travel. However, the company is still posting strong financials and has unveiled new tools to support its hosts in a tougher rental market. With a healthy bottom line and a huge user base, Airbnb is very likely to overcome the current market turbulence and continue its growth.
