Who you are
- You have several years of commercial experience developing complex web applications - previous experience of data visualisation technology is not required but would be a bonus
- You have previous experience as a Software Engineer - in tune with software engineering fundamentals and first principles; comfortable contributing to design documents and performing thorough code reviews and, at times, coding when needed
- You’ve got experience and knowledge of cross-browser and cross-device development
- You’re an experienced data wrangler and have used libraries such as Pandas, and Vega
- You bring several years of experience in people management, leading and mentoring other software engineers. Providing mentorship to others is close to your heart, and you thrive by empowering them
- You possess strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate problems and solutions clearly
- You bring a strong ability to influence and work cross-functionally across several internal teams, to work with a diverse range of individuals from different backgrounds, with different expertise, and with different professional and personal needs

What the job involves
- Lead the team to develop and deliver exciting new charts and data visualisations to Canva
- Contribute to the evolving stack as part of a highly functional and passionate team
- Work closely with other product teams in Australia to collaboratively innovate and deliver cutting-edge functionality
- Coach, lead, and mentor your team to help them achieve their goals
- Perform structured performance reviews with your team members, conduct regular 1:1s, participate in the hiring process of new engineers, and plan goals & milestones for your team
- Foster a positive and productive work environment by promoting collaboration, open communication, and continuous learning and development opportunities for your team
- AI and machine learning have the potential to greatly increase the accessibility of data visualisation techniques to data-shy users, and creative applications of visual and natural language-based AI will allow our advanced users to create data visualisations from their complex data that were inconceivable just a few years ago. You’ll help us expand our exciting developments in this space (informed by the acquisition of leading dataviz company Flourish) while also exploring new related areas

Launched in 2013, Canva is a free online visual communications and design platform. It features a vast range of templates including presentations, websites, and social media graphics, plus a huge library of fonts, stock photography, illustrations, video footage, and audio clips.
