Who you are

7+ years of experience building consumer-facing software products, with 2+ years leading technical direction for a team of engineers
Expertise in at least one backend language (Ruby, Python, etc.)
Fundamental proficiency in the frontend framework React
Well versed in operating one or more modern databases, designing scalable APIs, and building delightful user interfaces
Familiarity with building and scaling a distributed systems environment built with Kubernetes, Docker, and GCP

What the job involves

Guideline is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our expanding engineering team
You will join a distributed team of remote employees and employees based near our offices
As a Full Stack Engineer on an agile team, you will build upon our growing line of products that bring the possibility of a safe retirement to more people
Scope projects and design systems architecture for usability and scaling our products
Bring modern software solutions to an antiquated financial industry using your expertise of building full stack software solutions
Build elegant software from the ground up by creating user interfaces, using message queuing infrastructure, streamlining operations and designing systems architecture
Work with a group of passionate technologists to help automate administrative tasks and build unique solutions to solve our users' problems

Our take

When businesses offer a 401(K) plan, a message is sent to employees and potential employees that their future is valued by their employer. However, small businesses are often left behind, being charged extortionate fees or ignored by 401(K) providers altogether, leaving many American families with no retirement savings and the potential of retiring into poverty.

Guideline spotted this oversight as an opportunity to jump in and offer small businesses an affordable 401(K). It generates income by charging each business a flat monthly fee per participant.

The company now manages retirement plans for hundreds of thousands of people in over 40,000 companies and has accumulated over $8 billion in assets under management. Benefits providers Intuit, Gusto, and Square all use Guideline as their 401(K) partners.
