What the job involves
- The Account Manager plays a critical role in the go-to-market efforts at Foursquare and sits within the Account Management team within Sales
- The Sales team collectively works to solution-sell both Targeting and Measurement (ATTR) into Marketers serviced directly or by their intermediary agencies and platforms
- Working closely with Engineering and Marketing teams to bring to life the best in market geo-location based services, Foursquare’s sales team is responsible for the sale and service to secure, retain & grow account and partner based revenue
- Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of advertiser and agency clients
- Build and nurture strong relationships with clients, driving retention and growth opportunities
- Manage the end-to-end client lifecycle — onboarding, campaign setup, optimization, reporting, and renewal
- Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities, contributing to revenue growth targets
- Ownership of the narrative and the book of business
- Preparedness - rehearse, review notes, collaborate on talking points, be polished

Our take
Foursquare was originally built as an app that used mobile phone GPS to 'check in' at certain locations. Over time, it has transformed from a user location check-in app into a large location platform that provides analytics for several business and consumer products.
Foursquare operates in a crowded market, but by continually innovating, it has successfully fended off competitors. However, with the likes of Google Maps and Facebook Places in the same industry, it will continuously need to set itself apart. Foursquare shows its appeal, though: major players, including Twitter, Uber, Apple Maps, and Airbnb, to name a few, use the platform.
The company has an ambitious goal of bringing "Foursquare Everywhere", with part of its strategy to grow by acquisitions. For example, it acquired Unfolded, a geospatial analytics firm, to help enhance its analysis of location data. Foursquare has also made a deal with social media giant TikTok to provide insights into users' in-store activity to monitor the effectiveness of ads on the video platform, and with Constellation Network to give insights into restaurant and retail business traffic trends.
