Role
Who you are
- Experience with Optimization modeling and implementation using solver packages (e.g. CP-SAT, CPLEX, Gurobi, etc.)
- Coding skills (Advanced Python and SQL)
- Statistics and Machine Learning knowledge
- Ability to structure and solve ambiguous problems
- Demonstrated experience communicating and collaborating with different stakeholders and senior leadership
- At least 4+ years of relevant experience
Desirable
- Experience with experimentation
- Experience at another Ride hailing or Marketplace company
- Experience with fleet management systems
- Experience with autonomous traffic management systems
What the job involves
- Waymo's Product Data Science team works cross-functionally with Engineering, Product and Operations to help the company make the most informed decisions using data
- Our team collaborates on high-impact projects across the company — from driving quality and operational efficiency to market analysis and rider satisfaction scores — we help to safely and efficiently scale the Waymo Driver
- We are data-driven, curious, open-minded, and adapt quickly to new information
- In this hybrid role, you will be reporting to a Product Data Scientist Lead
- Partner with Data Science, Engineering, Product and Operations teams to develop the fleet scheduling and orchestration models for Waymo
- Build sophisticated Optimization models to decide when to launch and recharge vehicles, match vehicles to depots, and control traffic within the depots
- Build Machine Learning models to predict the future state of the fleet
- Use Statistics and Data Analytics to determine the performance of the model
- Present on a regular basis to Waymo leadership
Our take
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company that began as the Google self-driving car project in 2009. After initial development, it secured permits to deploy autonomous ride-hailing services in cities including Phoenix and San Francisco, but has recently hit a major bump in the road with safety concerns that resulted in a recall of over 400 self-driving cars.
With the autonomous driving industry already besieged by setbacks and public distrust, this development does Waymo no favours. That said, as an industry leader there remains the possibility it will see out the storm, but massive attention will need to be given to rebuilding trust with consumers if this is to be the case.
