Who you are
- Expert in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, and Kotlin Flow
- Strong experience with Jetpack Compose and modern Android UI frameworks
- Solid understanding of Clean Architecture and MVI pattern
- Proficient with Hilt dependency injection
- Advanced understanding of object-oriented design patterns and their application within Android frameworks
- Strong understanding of performance optimization for mobile applications
- Deep knowledge of Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices
- Experience with RESTful APIs and third-party integrations
- Experience with testing frameworks (unit, feature, integration)
- Familiarity with Jira, Git, GitHub, CircleCI, and development via PR workflows
- Strong systematic thinking and problem-solving skills
- Nice to have: Java, RxJava, Firebase, Room, Retrofit, Navigation 3, Compose Destinations, multi-module architecture
- Demonstrated curiosity and hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline workflows, debug, generate tests, and improve development velocity

What the job involves
- We’re looking for an Android Engineer II who thrives at the intersection of product thinking, engineering execution, and experimentation
- You’ll independently own Android-first product and growth initiatives that help customers discover value faster, engage more deeply, and get more from Homebase. Working primarily in Kotlin while collaborating closely with backend engineers, Product, Design, and Data teams, you'll identify opportunities, ship experiments, and build seamless mobile experiences that improve customer outcomes

- Build, ship, and maintain Android features in the onboarding and activation flows that help new customers reach value faster
- Develop clean, scalable, testable Kotlin code that raises the bar for mobile engineering quality
- Partner with backend engineers, product and design to deliver AI-powered signup, onboarding, and team activation experiences
- Improve performance, reliability, and overall app resilience for our 3.9M+ active workers and managers
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate development, reduce defect rates, improve test coverage, and streamline workflow automation
- Collaborate cross-functionally with backend, web, data, and AI platform partners to ensure seamless end-to-end system behavior
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Contribute to our mobile technical roadmap and raise the bar for engineering excellence across the org

Homebase provides employees and businesses with time tracking applications, with a range of other HR functionality built in. Homebase automates the process of managing employee scheduling and also helps companies improve internal communications.
The company contributes to the reduction of paperwork in an office by turning an array of devices into time clocks that track hours and overtime, while also providing payroll support. This makes it easier for companies to remain in sync, running a more efficient operation as a result.
Given that Homebase's customer base of small businesses is not able to pay a lot for its product, scale is the key driver in the company's future success. With over 100,000 customers already, its significant venture capital backing will ensure that the company will be able to grow (notably, it's investing in Canadian talent) to provide its services on a profitable scale.
