Role
Who you are
- We’re seeking a motivated and detail-oriented law student for a Legal Internship, focusing on contracts, compliance, and government contracting
- Current law student at an accredited institution
- Strong interest in contracts—both commercial and government—and in the aerospace, defense, or high-tech sectors
- Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to clearly articulate legal and business concepts
- High level of attention to detail and capability to work with precision under deadlines
- Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills
- Commitment to discretion and professionalism in responsibly managing sensitive and confidential information
- Willingness to work on-site at our Irvine office for the duration of the internship
What the job involves
- In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience analyzing and negotiating commercial and government contracts while supporting Turion Space’s mission as a leading defense and space technology company
- You will contribute to developing standardized templates and workflows to improve contract management efficiency and compliance with federal acquisition regulations
- This internship offers direct exposure to Department of Defense (DoD) initiatives, export control considerations, and the legal framework governing U.S. defense contracting and satellite operations
- This position is expected to be on-site at our Irvine, CA headquarters part-time during the school year
- Contract Analysis & Review: Review and summarize key clauses in existing agreements (both commercial and government); identify potential risks and recommend improvements or alternative terms
- Government Contracts Support: Assist with compliance and reporting obligations under the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS). Help analyze subcontractor flow-down requirements, data rights clauses, and security provisions
- Deal Desk Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Program Management, Business Development, Engineering, etc.) to streamline contract workflows and to ensure deals align with company policies and goals
- Template Development: Help create or refine standardized contract templates and clause libraries, contributing to the development of Turion Space’s deal desk processes
- Legal Research: Conduct research on federal procurement law, intellectual property rights in government contracting, export controls (ITAR/EAR), and other relevant regulations impacting aerospace and defense operations
- Contract Management: Support the organization and maintenance of contract databases. Assist with tracking key obligations using internal trackers and contract databases
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve contracting and compliance procedures to reduce risk, increase efficiency, and maintain readiness for audits or reviews

To empower critical space missions, Turion Space builds and operates DROID Satellites that its clients can control through the company's operating system (known as Starfire).
The idea behind Turion's approach is to simplify satellite operations by making them non-configurable, instead handling day-to-day operations itself. In this way, the company helps its clients to eliminate friction between platform and bus suppliers, which can hinder the potential of missions.
To support the expansion of its operations, which include non-earth imaging, space debris removal and satellite servicing, the company has raised strategic funding. This positions it well to move towards its goal of producing 45 satellites annually by 2027.
