Role
Who you are
- Has advanced product design experience demonstrated through a portfolio of impactful design solutions
- Has experience designing user experiences within insurance, finance or other compliance regulated sectors
- Designs beyond the screen, considering dependencies, user flows, and long-term product architecture to create coherent and scalable solutions
- Is proficient in using design and prototyping tools such as Figma and is committed to continuous learning of new features
- Has experience conducting usability testing
- Can communicate design ideas clearly and champion design principles across diverse audiences, including design and non-design stakeholders
- Can think beyond the immediate design task and understand the bigger business and product strategy

What the job involves
- As the Product Designer at SafetyWing, you will drive the design and development of our products
- Your role extends beyond crafting exceptional designs; it's about adding depth and meaning to the experience while maintaining our core values
- Lead product design initiatives from conception to final execution
- Drive continuous improvements in our design processes, proposing strategies to elevate the quality of outputs
- Ensure consistency in design outputs by collaborating closely with product managers, other designers and engineers
- Drive the evolution and adherence to SafetyWing's design system
- Present product design ideas to cross-functional teams and senior leadership
Our take
SafetyWing is ambitiously setting out to build a global social safety net. Following the roll-out of their medical insurance products for digital nomads and remote teams, they’re working on adding a remote doctor consultation service, and plans are in the pipeline to develop a global retirement product.
Targeting the global community of remote workers, SafetyWing had a well timed launch prior to the Covid Pandemic. As teams were forced into remote or hybrid set-ups, ‘workcations’ became normalised. By some reports the US digital nomad community ballooned by 50% to nearly 11 million, and more countries green-lit ‘Digital Nomad Visas’. Many of these require travellers to maintain their own medical insurance. So SafetyWings’ offerings are likely to slot neatly into the growing market as it continues to open up.
The company operates across more than 180 countries, and there is relatively little competition in this space due to the complexities of the heavily regulated insurance industry. This complexity will continue to challenge SafetyWing when new rules are being introduced. The company raised $8 million in 2021 and in 2024 expanded its health insurance offering for travellers.
