Who you are
- 5+ years of experience as a product designer, owning the full design process end-to-end—most ideally within complex tools built for creative professionals (e.g., video, audio, or design software)
- Experience designing web, mobile, or desktop applications with sophisticated user workflows and systems design challenges
- Thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments, navigating ambiguity with confidence and adaptability
- Clear, direct communicator who collaborates effectively with engineers, designers, and executives
- Highly organized and accountable, taking commitments seriously
- Comfortable leading through ambiguity, guiding the design process for a cross-functional team
- A portfolio that showcases strong systems design, conceptual thinking, and a real passion for your craft
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in design
What the job involves
- As a Senior Product Designer, you will help build end-to-end experiences for our users — from improvement to our project browser, our accounts admin, to upcoming editor features.
- You’ll collaborate closely with user research, product management and engineering to design and ship experiences that make it easy for anyone to create and edit video
- Our product is an intricate web of interconnected features, which means design at Descript is mostly about systems design.
- Designers who do well here are ones are the ones who love mind-melting puzzles, where you have to figure out how to keep all the interconnected parts straight in your head, and build something that has structural integrity while elegantly serving the needs of users
- Play a key role in a feature team, driving design decisions and collaborating with stakeholders and fellow designers to shape innovative video editing experiences
- Bring clarity and insight to problems that are broad and ambiguous in scope, integrating user, business, and technical constraints through structured thinking and concise communication
- Contribute to the definition and expansion of our design system
- Own the design process from concept through to execution, iterating based on feedback and user research
- Collaborate with PMs, user research and fellow product designers to make your work better, and be there as a thought partner for others when they need your help
- Design superb user experiences, with an insane attention to detail

Descript offers podcasters, YouTubers and other content creators a series of modern tools for editing and transcribing audio and video files. It stands out from more traditional editing platforms by using modern tools like natural language processing and AI generated transcriptions.
One of its most newsworthy features is its transcription to audio editing software. Users can edit the AI generated transcription in text format, which is then reflected in the audio itself, and in the speaker's “natural" voice. Founded by Groupon founder and former CEO Andrew Mason in 2017, the company has experienced fast growth, and has already been used across the industry by outlets like the BBC, NPR, VICE, The Washington Post and The New York Times.
The company’s early success and future potential have been underlined in the form of substantial funding. The podcasting industry alone (which encompasses both video and audio) accounted for $22 billion.
