Role

Who you are

  • Very strong analytical skills. Like really strong! So strong that truth and light are your two middle names. Decision Science is your bread and butter
  • Experience in the areas of Pricing and Pricing optimization, in a commercial setting
  • Knowledge of Causal Inference and strong statistical skills (e.g., design of experiments and hypothesis testing)
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives that drive scalable impact
  • An eye for proactively identifying opportunities for impact in multiple domains and in collaboration with multiple teams
  • Ability to envision the future and articulate it to a broad community of Product and Commercial leaders as well as other key stakeholders
  • A deep understanding of machine learning techniques and experience applying them to solve business problems
  • Track record in leading cross-functional initiatives that span across the organization
  • A strong engineering background with good knowledge of Python and exposure to one more programming language (Kotlin, Java, etc), as well as engineering best practices
  • Experience writing SQL queries and handling large amounts of data
  • Proficient in English with excellent written and oral communication skills!
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Able to work in diverse, multi-functional teams with people from different backgrounds

Desirable

  • Experience with cloud-based tools for production use (e.g., AWS Athena, AWS Sagemaker, AWS Spectrum, AWS Kinesis) or equivalent
  • Experience building large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines with open-source data processing frameworks like Spark
  • Experience with platforms for programmatically authoring, scheduling, and monitoring workflows (e.g. Apache Airflow)
  • Experience driving initiatives such as Tech Radar for Data Science and interacting with external groups (e.g. Amazon ML Solutions Lab or similar) to formulate and progress the Data Science Tech agenda

  • Your job will be to be the technical expert tasked with establishing smart pricing models and policies for all OLX customer units (Motors, Real Estate, Goods, Jobs, and Services)
  • Pricing that is fair for the customers, proportional to the market value we deliver, and that works for OLX

  • Your job will be to provide technical guidance to a team of Product, Commercial, and Data Science experts working in the areas of pricing and pricing optimization
  • You will be responsible for fueling the team with technical inspiration and mentoring the team members to explore the newest technologies in Causal Inference and Decision Science while delivering business value
  • You will be exposed to key stakeholders, and you will have direct contact with internal customers
  • You will have the freedom to design experiments across different lines of business and test things
  • Most importantly, you will also witness how your work impacts the day-to-day business and the growth of OLX
  • Finally, you will be a mentor and a thought leader for the practice of Data Science and Analytics across the organizations that constitute OLX, finding opportunities to have an impact not only for the business and our users but also for the community of Data Scientists spread across our hubs
  • Work in the Data Science team, focusing on Pricing Optimization, from a platform and marketplace perspective
  • Leading projects and initiatives in collaboration with local Data Science and Data Engineering teams, as well as Product and Commercial leaders
  • You will maintain strong relationships with stakeholders. This means asking a lot of questions to commercial people and translating their requirements into achievable projects. It also means collaborating with other teams, like infrastructure and data engineering to get things done in an elegant and timely manner
  • Work with Product Analytics to track the KPIs of different ML use cases and measure the impact on our customers
  • Partner with the Experimentation team to integrate the KPIs and their proxies into the Experimentation (A/B testing) platform
  • Helping to formulate data science solutions in order to improve business jointly with product managers and engineers
  • Ensuring successful achievement of research and development objectives through stakeholder management and mentoring of more junior Data Scientists
  • Working on optimizing the models according to the requirements of the specific use case and collaborating with other team members to bring in production and scale machine learning solutions
  • Measuring the impact of your models against company goals
  • Working in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software against schedules
  • You will work in multi-functional teams, in a diverse, multinational environment
  • Most importantly you will have fun working with us

OLX group started as an alternative to Craigslist outside the US and has since ridden the wave of classifieds, e-commerce and marketplaces to become one the most prominent web platforms in the world.

Over 300 million people use an OLX group website every month. The company has managed to reach this level primarily through the acquisition and integration of emerging marketplaces that typically delight customers with their easy-use and quality range.

The company is now deepening its M&A strategy by integrating further marketplaces and inventories on behalf of its largest platforms, like OLX Autos. The business has already done $1B of revenue since operation.

While some brands have been flying high, others like the Russian-based Avito have become liabilities. Navigating these fluctuations in the fortunes of its ever growing portfolio of brands will continue to pose the biggest challenge for the group.
