Role
Who you are
- 6+ years in Product Marketing
- 8+ year track record of success driving product B2B SaaS marketing strategies and go-to-market programs of significant scale (e.g., over $100M in annual revenue) and launching and scaling products or markets. Experience using customer insights and data to inform segmentation, buyer personas, messaging, competitive positioning, pricing recommendations, and go-to-market plans
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strategic thinking combined with a “roll up the sleeves” doer attitude
- Be comfortable with conducting A/B testing and other growth experiments, in partnership with the Growth team, to continuously improve adoption efforts
What the job involves
- We're looking for a strategic, growth-oriented Product Marketing Lead to accelerate the adoption and growth of Gusto. This will be a senior individual contributor role
- Understand the market: Identify unmet/underserved customer needs and develop customer segmentation. Evaluate market trends and competitive landscape to define our competitive advantage and right to win
- Create Positioning, Messaging, and Packaging: Articulate who we serve, how we are differentiated and deliver value, and develop value propositions and messaging
- Deliver Go-to-Market Strategy and Campaigns: Use insights on how to reach target customers across their buying journey to design go-to-market strategies that hit metrics that matter, including leads, adoption and revenue targets. Work closely with Revenue teams (Sales, Marketing, Revenue Operations) to plan and execute GTM campaigns
- Strategy and Planning: Partner with cross-functional teams to drive strategy, goal setting, and execution. Track to ensure we are delivering against commitments on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
Our take
For many small businesses, vital administrative tasks such as payroll, taxes, and benefits are manual tasks that take time and energy which many SMB owners don’t have. The three co-founders of Gusto – all coming from small business backgrounds – collaborated on a Fintech company that would handle employee payments, benefits administration, and compliance support specifically for small businesses.
The company may have started slowly, as the founders focused on nailing each individual aspect of Gusto’s operations, but has now skyrocketed to unicorn status with more than 200,000 customers and a multi-billion dollar valuation. In 2021, Gusto began acquiring other companies to strengthen its offering and its position in a competitive market, including two other fintech startups, Ardius and Symmetry.
Through its continued acquisitions and fundraising efforts, the company has carved out a strong position for itself in the space. Although Gusto has found itself impacted by the macroeconomic situation, through the significant effect it has had on its clientele, the company still appears positive for the future after raising funds in 2023 that will see it reach key profitability benchmarks. It continues to consolidate its platform, for example by integrating with OpenComp to grant its users access to the company's Compensation Intelligence Platform.
