Role
Who you are
- Proven experience in product management, with a strong emphasis on go-to-market (GTM) strategies and execution
- Skilled in developing and implementing strategic plans for product positioning, pricing, and launch strategies
- Experience in working on cross-border payments, including familiarity with ‘Currency Guides’ is a plus
- Collect business requirements, from internal stakeholders and customers
- Liaise with Support on customer queries and support cases
- Must be a problem solver. Must have the ability to proactively identify and resolve issues, including unique, complex problems. This includes the ability to prioritise effectively
- A team player with strong interpersonal skills, who can collaborate effectively with regional teams
- Experience with Agile Tools (JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket) and visualisation tools such as Tableau, Microstrategy and Excel are an advantage
- Experience working with SwiftRef data or demonstrate familiarity with payment reference data in general. For example, SSIs or regulatory payment purpose codes is an advantage
- Minimum 5 years of Product Management experience
- Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience
What the job involves
- Understanding customer needs, capturing feedback, consolidating requirements, and translating them into requirements for our IT teams
- Work with the SwiftRef Product Owner to define and maintain product roadmaps, using agile tools and methodologies
- Performing thorough market and competitive analysis on the payments and financial reference data landscapes

Our take
SWIFT was founded in 1973 to serve as the bedrock of the international payments system. A cooperative society which is owned by its member financial institutions, it is a vital piece of the global financial infrastructure, securely transmitting payment instructions between over 11,000 institutions in almost every country. SWIFT handles half of all international transactions, on average 40 million every day.
SWIFT's only direct competition in the traditional cross-border payments sector are bodies such as China's CIPS and Russia's SFMS. Yet, lacking the trust and membership of SWIFT these are unlikely to make serious inroads in the international payments sector.
In recent years the competitive landscape for international transfers has been disrupted by the large-scale uptake of cryptocurrency. SWIFT has not been immune, facing competition from high-speed blockchain payment networks such as Ripple. However SWIFT has moved quickly to adapt, introducing SWIFT Global Payments Innovation (gpi) to increase the speed of transactions to nearly that of its competitors but with greatly enhanced visibility. It is also researching blockchain technologies, partnering with companies like Chainlink to trial its own cross-chain protocols that will allow it to continue to thrive in the new financial landscape.
