Role
Who you are
- You have 4+ years of professional experience working in product design
- You possess a record of shipped work that demonstrates a strong understanding of design fundamentals, including visual hierarchy, interaction design, and the application of brand and system principles
- You have experience design for native apps (iOS and Android) and are familiar with platform-specific interaction patterns. You cna showcase examples of thinking cross-platforms
- You’ve worked closely with cross-functional partners to identify and define new opportunities, and you’ve efficiently implemented ideas that deliver measurable positive results
- You bring highly developed design skills and have example to showcase in your portfolio. This includes crafting end-to-end flows, creating polished prototypes, demonstrating industry-standard interaction patterns, and applying a design system efficiently
- You articulate ideas and design solutions clearly and thoughtfully
- You share feedback thoughtfully and with clarity, and you easily incorporate feedback into your own work
- You become comfortable with ambiguity and know how to navigate and define projects where the problem space is well-understood but the solution space is less established
- You positively add to team culture, bringing motivation, optimism, quality, and integrity to everything you do
What the job involves
- The Buyer Experience Team is focussed on driving quality and connection in the customer experience
- As a Senior Mobile Product Designer on the Growth team, you will be responsible for driving the strategy to help Etsy activate and retain customers such as campaigns and improved landing experiences
- You will work closely with your partners across Product, User Research and Analytics to understand the customer’s problems and define high-craft and customer focused solutions
- This position will blend creative and analytical skills, balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- This is a full-time position reporting to our Senior Design Manager
- Product designers at Etsy work in a squad alongside a product manager, 4-6 engineers, a researcher and a data analyst
- Together they drive their own part of the Etsy customer experience by delivering solutions to problems and getting feedback directly from customers
- You lead independently or provide direction to your squad, stepping in where needed to ensure collaboration and progress
- You facilitate discovery and conceptualization workshops that align teams efficiently, identifying experiments, measuring their success, and iterating toward broader strategic goals
- You have a consistent record of designing easy to use user flows and crafting polished, interactive prototypes that bring your team’s roadmap to life
- You think and design at a systems level, crafting and influencing design systems to ensure consistency and scalability across projects
- You share your work regularly with peers and leadership, incorporating feedback and collaborating closely with engineering to deliver high-quality results
- You mentor designers by offering clear, actionable feedback in critiques, workshops, and team meetings, helping to elevate the quality of the team’s work
- You actively participate in onboarding and encouraging an environment of engagement and collaboration within your design team

Our take
Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art, and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.
Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.
However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. The recent hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers has created significant discontent amongst sellers. Etsy must reconcile these issues to ensure artists continue to operate on the same scale within the platform. It plans to attract shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
