Who you are
- 4+ years of experience as a software engineer

- We have a strong preference for engineers who have experience with Python in production. We are also interested in engineers with specialties or backgrounds in accounting as well as fintech and related fields
What the job involves
- Pilot is hiring a senior engineer for our newest R&D team, Local Partners
- Pilot is a successful startup bringing the back office into the modern era. The Local Partners team is responsible for a new segment of our business: enabling partnerships with entrepreneurs running their own bookkeeping businesses. This team is going to be highly experimental and iterative, and you’ll help build that culture from the ground up
- Pilot’s aim historically has been to provide our customers with the same superpowers as large companies with full finance teams — superpowers that include having a deep understanding of financial health of the business, the machinery to constantly improve it, and the predictive abilities to thoughtfully plan for the future
- Pilot’s backend is written in fully typed Python 3.11, and our frontend is JavaScript, TypeScript, and Vue.js. We use Terraform to manage our production infrastructure, and deploy Docker containers to ECS. AWS CodeDeploy powers our deployments and we rely on Honeycomb for our monitoring and Postgres as our database
- Building, testing and deploying software in a continuous manner (we deploy daily or more often)
- Working with PMs and Product Designers, and participating in product and design reviews
- Creating and contributing to technical specs and testing/rollout plans
- Working with internal customers and stakeholders to ensure we’re solving the right problems
- Mentoring and sponsoring your teammates to help them grow
- Supporting your software and services as required

Back office operations such as bookkeeping are an unwelcome distraction and expense for businesses, but they don't have to be. Pilot is the largest provider of back office services for startups and small businesses in the US, aiming to take care of a company's back office so they can focus on their core activities.
Founded in 2016. Pilot has attracted an impressive range of customers including Bolt, r2c and Pathrise. The company's proposition is more than just bookkeeping software, providing services that would ordinarily be provided by a fractional chief financial officer. This empowers small businesses and startups to make better budgeting and spending decisions without the need of an expensive finance department hire.
The company's commitment to providing the best customer experience is a particular strength. Over 80% of the company’s business is driven by customer referrals and organic interest. It has also established a number of strategic partnerships with companies such as American Express, bill.com, Stripe and SVB, allowing it to offer a great deal of flexibility in supporting its customers whatever payment methods they use.
Going forward Pilot aims to be to startups and medium-sized firms what AWS is to cloud computing - a comprehensive, easily scalable solution that prevents the need to reinvent a necessary but non-core function from scratch. With rapid revenue growth and significant financial backing from investors, it is well poised to achieve this.
