- Advanced knowledge in Ruby (Ruby on Rails) and Javascript (React)

- Experimentation mindset: autonomy and empowerment to validate a customer need, get team buy-in, and ship a rapid MVP
- Experience building scalable technical architecture that can scale to 10mm+ users (including observability tooling, container orchestration, etc)

What the job involves
- Checkr Personal is our consumer product for ordering background checks and verifying credentials. Our vision is to build the largest network of verified individuals. Over the past year, we’ve seen exponential growth, both through direct-to-consumer adoption and growing demand from job platforms looking to embed our verified profiles to let their workers stand out
- This team is part of the Checkr new products lab: we operate with the speed of a small startup, while enjoying the leverage and resources of a known technology brand
- Since launching, we’ve seen significant traction and we are looking for a Staff Full Stack Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in the continued growth of our startup
- Work closely with customers, engineers, and leaders to design, build, and launch new products
- Take full ownership of the entire process of developing end-to-end applications, from shaping the idea to delivering the finished application
- Run and measure product experiments, using what you learn to guide future development
- Build and improve APIs, including integrating with third-party services to expand what our products can do
- Keep code reliable and easy to maintain with solid testing, thoughtful reviews, and good practices
Our take
Checkr addresses the unpleasant and time consuming process of background checks so that companies using on-demand employees can make safer, more informed hiring decisions in less time. Background checks are a critical part of the hiring process, and CEO Daniel Yannisse noticed that they were painfully slow, resulting in loss of work for candidates and productivity downturns for employers.
Before Checkr entered the market in 2014 with its innovative AI technology and a solid $50m in venture capital funding, companies were waiting upwards of two weeks for their checks. Checkr substantially reduces this time frame and has grown to receive a $5 billion valuation.
Checkr has accelerated growth by making several highly advantageous acquisitions of competitor companies GoodHire and Inflection. As the world of work embraces diversity and inclusion, the company announced an end-to-end service for candidates wishing to expunge their criminal records, furthering the company’s ‘fair chance’ mission and clearing 1000s of candidates for free since 2021. New products launched at the end of 2023 include Checkr Pay (providing access to payment right after a shift) and Checkr Onboard (unified onboarding processes), exemplifying how Checkr is keeping pace with a rapidly changing, flexible, and mobile-first workforce.
