Who you are
- You are biased toward avoiding manual, repetitive work and strive to find the perfect balance between keeping the lights on and building elegant automated systems
- You enjoy sharing knowledge, creating clear guidelines, and participating in training sessions to elevate the technical capabilities of the entire engineering organization
- You value documentation and technical clarity, contributing to Architecture Decision Records to ensure our systems are understood today and scalable tomorrow
- You are curious about the evolution of DevOps, particularly in how to effectively leverage AI tooling and agents to streamline workflows
- Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language (Python or Go preferred)
- Solid experience deploying and optimizing solutions on a major cloud provider (Azure or GCP)
- A strong grasp of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and the containerization ecosystem (like Kubernetes) and related tooling
- An understanding of Linux, networking, web applications, and database fundamentals
- Familiarity with monitoring server and application performance, with the troubleshooting skills to resolve issues in a distributed environment
- You have a deep understanding of distributed systems and message brokers, and you are comfortable taking ownership of critical infrastructure components that keep our services communicating reliably
What the job involves
- As a Senior Platform Engineer at Castor, you will be building the foundations that empower our product developers to ship secure, reliable services at scale
- Your mission is to bridge the gap between code and production by building out a robust containerized environment on Azure and maintaining a reliable, high-performance messaging backbone that minimizes toil and maximizes efficiency
- By championing automation and infrastructure-as-code, you’ll directly impact our ability to deliver life-changing health-tech solutions to patients and researchers worldwide
- Designing and implementing solutions that allow product teams to run containerized services seamlessly
- Developing internal best practices, guidelines, and documentation to help developers navigate cloud infrastructure
- Writing and maintaining code for centrally managed services while improving security and reliability
- Manage our centralized messaging infrastructure (NATS), ensuring its reliability, scalability and performance
- Providing support through a dedicated on call rotation
- Contributing to technical documentation and Architecture Decision Records to keep our ecosystem transparent and stable
Our take
Castor’s cloud-based clinical data management platform allows clinical trials to be carried out faster and in a more decentralised and patient-focused manner. Some of the biggest roadblocks to successful clinical trials are the length of time they can take, a lack of diversity in participants, and a simple shortage of trial subjects. Castor’s tech allows researchers to overcome these obstacles by more easily capturing and integrating data.
Castor, along with other med tech startups, garnered praise during 2020 as a lot of medical research transitioned to virtual. In a clinical trials market that’s worth over $40 billion worldwide and still growing, the fact that Castor counts the WHO in its customer base is encouraging.
Backed by Eight Roads Ventures and F-Prime Capital, Castor continues to invest in product development, data gathering and increasing its manpower. It is also expanding its clinical trials solution beyond the US and into the lucrative Asian market.
