- We are looking for a great, collaborative partner, who has experience working with Product teams, along with Legal and Risk Operations
- 10+ years in the compliance industry, specifically with experience in payments compliance
- BSA/AML and regulatory knowledge, specifically related to Know Your Customer (KYC) and Customer Identification Program (CIP)
- A metrics-driven approach to create substantiated solutions
- Operational knowledge in building a sound Compliance program
- The ability to collaborate with team members of all levels
What the job involves
- The Product Compliance team is a group of strategic compliance advisors to the Cash App Product Team, who support the business in achieving their goals in a compliant manner
- The team is an embedded function within the product teams, and partners with Product Managers pre-launch to define requirements, identify and document corresponding controls, and provide ongoing compliance support post-implementation
- The Product Compliance team is not only involved from an advisory perspective, but are main decision makers on compliance controls and recommendations to the Business
- The Product Compliance team is looking for someone who has experience working on consumer-focused payment products, with a depth of experience understanding and implementing controls related to Know Your Customer (KYC), Customer Identification Programs (CIP), and more broadly understanding the complexities of identifying and building controls to prevent inauthentic identities
- Your work contributes to the gateway that allows customers to enter the Cash App ecosystem, and maintenance and retention of valuable customers
- Partner with Product Managers to understand and identify gaps in processes related to account onboarding and identity verification, and advise on recommended control design
- Have a strong understanding of BSA/AML requirements, industry standards, and be able apply that knowledge thoughtfully and strategically
- Work with Legal partners to understand regulatory obligations and legal requirements, and translate those to product in a coherent and effective manner
- Collaborate with Product Managers to understand their strategic vision around identity management, account security, and advise on the creation of seamless, cohesive customer experiences
- Identify product gaps in controls and assess remediations proposed by partners
- Work with other Compliance partners to identify, document, and develop an inventory of risks and controls for your respective domain
- Remain up-to-date on regulatory changes and landscape, best practices and new developments in the industry

Block is a financial services technology company comprising of Square, Cash App, Spiral, TIDAL, and TBD. Its biggest brand, Square, offers hardware and software for small to medium-sized businesses enabling them to manage the entire payment lifecycle. It functions similarly to Shopify and Stripe, but has paired online payment processing with physical devices such as registers, payment terminals, and mobile card readers.
The business was originally founded as Square in 2009 by Jack Dorsey of Twitter fame. Already well-established with SMEs all over the globe, Square has significantly benefited from the increased demand for mobile payment systems. Its order management feature remains a go-to tool for small businesses that otherwise didn't have the proper infrastructure in place when demand for home delivery surged.
Square rebranded as Block in December 2021, with the Square brand name remaining in place for their seller business. The company has since come under fire for its security practices, facing lawsuits in relation to a major breach of CashApp user data, and in 2024 announced plans to reduce its workforce in order to cut costs. Despite these setbacks, there is every chance the business will move past this, though it may take some time to rebuild trust in its product.
