Role
Who you are
- As this is an entry-level role, we are not seeking previous experience in the cyber security industry, but we are looking for either:
- A degree or alternative qualification in cyber security, computer science or similar subject; or
- Experience from either a technical trade in HM forces or civil service (e.g. Signals or IT roles) , or
- Prior experience as a Service Desk or Help Desk analyst with some previous training in cyber security or good understanding of Microsoft Windows and network security
- Be comfortable using your initiative to get the job done, sometimes with minimal guidance
- Have a high degree of personal integrity and understand the responsibilities that come with working in a security team
- Ambitious to learn, train and develop your skills within cyber security
- Be a team player and will forge strong relationships across the wider business
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Be flexible and able to adapt to rapidly changing situations
- Be tenacious, delivery focused, and results driven
- Be organised, proactive with an ability to multitask

What the job involves
- This is an exciting entry-level role to join our Security team and develop your cyber security skills
- The focus of the role will be hands-on monitoring of our cyber security platforms; Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel and security vendor systems; investigating issues and working with colleagues and partners to resolve incidents and putting in place capabilities to keep GSS secure
- We will provide training, mentoring and development to help the role holder learn, grow and develop their career with GSS
- Day-to-day monitoring of Microsoft Defender 365, Sentinel One and Microsoft Sentinel and investigating all alarms and incidents on our AWS and Azure cloud services
- Owning the incident life cycle of alerts from monitoring platforms and managing incidents until remediated or concluded
- Working with colleagues to understand the wider responsibilities of the Security Team and actively contributing to helping achieve team objectives, for example maintaining ISO27001 or SOC2 accreditation
- Being the first point-of-contact for all external cyber security providers including managed, detection & response (MDR) vendor and threat intelligence services
- Maintaining situational awareness of broader threat landscape so GSS understands trends in cyber-attacks against UK organisations and financial services sector
- Completing relevant training to become subject matter expect on Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel within first 6 months of role
- Further SANS and COMPTIA training to deepen technical knowledge and enable you to provide more advanced security skills will follow through the role
