Who you are
- Desire and drive to own large portions of the application from start to finish
- Passion for crafting and shipping software solutions that delight users

- Excellent technical vision with the ability to synthesize product requests into strong and reliable software components
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 2-5 years of experience working with cross-functional software development teams
- Experience shipping and iterating on production-grade software components professionally and / or in the open-source community
- Ability to write robust, well tested, and well-designed code that frequently gets deployed to users
- Strong understanding of product development and navigating large codebases
- Located in NYC and open to working in office

- As a Software Engineer on the platform team you’ll have vast ownership across our stacks, making decisions that will have an outsized impact for years to come
- You’ll push the boundaries of what a data platform can do by creating novel capabilities that span the platform and optimizing subsystems to achieve order-of-magnitude improvements in performance
- You will work on projects such as re-architecting our Elasticsearch cluster, taking response times from seconds to milliseconds; and owning other strategic initiatives that deliver industry-leading platform performance and capabilities
- Our stack is constantly evolving but based on a backend foundation of Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, and Kafka; a frontend built in React, Redux, and Mapbox; data stores including PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch; machine learning models hosted in Bedrock and Sagemaker; and with AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, and Kubernetes as our underlying infrastructure
Our take
The digitisation of emergency response organisations, data and incident reporting is speeding up, but this presents a problem if this information is not digestible. Emergency responders must be able to quickly translate and understand information as it comes in, or risk this faster flow of data being made redundant.
Peregrine is a data integration platform that improves emergency responses by making data more accessible, understandable and actionable. The platform can be used for public safety at different scales, such as building, city or region-wide. Its machine learning capabilities are also able to collate raw surveillance data, linking people, places and events to track targets or potential criminal activity.
With a founding team that boasts experience in both security and environmental risk analysis, Peregrine shows the potential to bridge the gap between tech and law enforcement. Funding has raised its valuation to $6.8 billion, and it's channelling resources to accelerate the company's growth, having doubled its customer base between 2025 and 20226.
