What the job involves
- As a BDR, you will identify, engage, and liaise with transit agencies and prospective partners across the North American market, building a pipeline of qualified people at target accounts and partners who are interested in the Justride platform and qualifying them for the BD team to engage with further
- It's the job of the BDR to help ensure that our BD team is spending their time wisely and working on the most productive leads
- Generally, our relationship with our clients is one of a trusted technology partner, which means that we avoid common hard-selling tactics and instead choose a longer-term, consultative approach, helping our clients to fully understand how Fare Payments as a Service can unlock value for their organization and riders alike
- Sourcing and initiating contact with potential customers
- Qualifying incoming leads and guiding them through initial discoveries
- Prioritizing leads and coordinating meetings between other BD Team members and potential clients and/or partners
- Attending sales conferences and managing event logistics
- Assisting in creating marketing collateral to showcase our innovative solutions
- You will become proficient in the full sales lifecycle - objection handling, product and pitch
- You will shape the future of our business by sourcing leads that will turn into our next clients
- You will pick up what it takes to qualify for opportunities for a SaaS product company and get an acute understanding of selling to government organizations, the transit industry as a whole, and the mobility services sectors
- You will pick up client-facing sales experience, which will include skills in presenting, pitching, and communicating face-to-face, on the phone and via email
- How to effectively sell technology SaaS products in a collaborative, consultative manner
- This is a cross-functional role, giving you the opportunity to interface with different departments of our organization (e.g. Bids, Marketing, Product, etc.). Therefore, it will present opportunities for growth not just within the Business Development team but in other areas as well
Our take
Masabi is developing a SaaS-based fare collection and ticketing platform that allows commuters to buy and present tickets for public transport on their mobile phones or by tapping a bank card. Replacing ticket booths, vending machines and on-board points of sale, Masabi presents a convenient and modern alternative for public transport providers without the hefty set-up fees of an in-house solution.
Competition has recently been heating up in the SaaS for mobility services sector, and Masabi now faces competition from the likes of Transloc, Passport and SilverRail Technologies. However, Masabi stands out with the flexibility of its platform and its ease of implementation (just over two weeks in the case of Nikko Kotsu Bus in Japan, compared to the months it can take for competing solutions).
Masabi now has deployments with over 150 transit agencies in 9 countries, with millions of passengers using its fare and ticketing system each year. It is continuing to expand its customer base, most recently deploying its platform with Eau Claire Transit and the Las Vegas Regional Transportation Commission. As more transit companies switch from legacy systems to modern ticketing solutions, Masabi is well poised for future success.
