What the job involves
- As a User Experience Research Assistant at Cradle, you will play a vital role in helping our User Experience Team gather insights from user interviews, code and organize key takeaways, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our platform
- We are seeking someone with a biology background who can engage in technical conversations, summarize complex topics, and pay attention to detail.
- Take notes based on user interviews conducted by the User Experience Researcher, using recorded interviews
- Summarize and code user interviews to help identify key insights and trends
- Maintaining an organized repository of user insights
- Assist in administrative tasks related to upcoming interviews, such as creating documents with details for note takers
- Manage administrative tasks for completed interviews to ensure all documentation is organized and readily accessible
- Collaborate closely with the User Experience Researcher to support ongoing research efforts
- This is a remote contract position
Application process
- Weekly hours will vary based on the number of interviews conducted, estimated initially at 2-3 hours per interview
- We have a backlog of interviews to code, so hours may be higher initially to catch up on this backlog
- Compensation will be discussed during the interview process
Our take
Designing proteins for a specific use or target is a complex task, with the functionality and structure of these macromolecules being difficult to model. Hence, protein design - essentially the "custom building" of proteins - is a relatively undeveloped part of molecular biology.
Cradle is hoping to help change this, by delivering a platform that designs custom proteins from a prompt. The idea is to apply the same large language models that are tackling language translation, chatbots, and web search, to biology - treating the code of DNA as it would any language.
The company's prospect is certainly an exciting one, with the range of applications for custom proteins spanning therapeutics, catalysis, cosmetics and many more. The tech is in its early days for now, and Cradle faces challenges such as determining when a suggested sequence is just incorrect, but as it develops further it will certainly be a company to keep an eye on.
