Role
Who you are
- Active license to practice law and in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
- 5+ years of experience in personal injury litigation, including demonstrated expertise in first- and third-party bad faith claims involving all types of insurance coverage
- Exceptional legal drafting skills, with a track record of producing complex legal documents such as pre- and post-litigation demands, medical summaries, written discovery responses, legal memoranda, and other high-value personal injury materials
- Meticulous attention to detail across all forms of written communication
- Deep knowledge of personal injury law across multiple states, including both statutory and common law frameworks, and a strong grasp of recoverable damages and their limitations
What the job involves
- We are seeking an exceptional legal professional to join our Knowledge Management & Applied Research Team
- This individual will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in personal injury litigation and partner closely with our technical teams, including engineering, product, and design, to shape the future of legal technology
- The Staff Attorney will play a critical role in developing proprietary datasets, guiding model fine-tuning, and enhancing the legal accuracy and impact of AI-generated work
- Maintain and expand EvenUp’s knowledge base to support high-quality demand packages and legal documents for personal injury claims
- Collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Machine Learning teams to enhance product offerings, develop AI systems, and tackle complex legal automation challenges
- Design and refine case-specific templates and support firm- and state-level customization in partnership with clients
- Conduct legal research on liability and damages nationwide, monitor statutory and common law changes, and mentor the Legal Operations Team on evolving legal standards
- Lead quality assurance efforts through audits, benchmark development, and prompt engineering to support model evaluation and fine-tuning
Our take
Every year, millions of personal injury cases in the US are resolved with only a small fraction going to trial, leaving many victims potentially under-compensated due to inaccurate settlement proposals. EvenUp aims to change this by leveraging AI technology to streamline the assessment of injury cases.
The AI tools evaluate raw case files, including medical and police records, creating tailored "demand packages" that present comprehensive compensation arguments. This improves lawyer performance and victim outcomes.
Despite concerns about AI bias and privacy, EvenUp has garnered significant investor interest, closing a funding round in 2024 that was one of the largest in the history of legal AI. Now valued at over $1 billion, it is investing in its team and introducing new techniques and products for personal injury and other legal areas.
