- J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience (law firm and/or in-house) handling corporate and commercial contract drafting, negotiation and management—preferably involving technology, marketplace, SaaS or mobility concepts
- Strong knowledge of contract fundamentals, intellectual property and privacy considerations and commercial risk allocation
- Excellent judgment, strong business acumen and the ability to translate legal issues into practical, actionable guidance for business partners
- Effective communication skills and comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple stakeholders
- A proactive mindset, ownership mentality and a collaborative, solution-oriented attitude
What the job involves
- As Corporate Counsel, you’ll be a key member of our Legal team and serve as the go-to partner for commercial contract work: negotiating, drafting and managing agreements across our operator partner, strategic partner, vendor and other relationships
- You’ll collaborate closely with our teams in Business Development, Revenue, Engineering, Product and Finance to ensure our commercial arrangements are efficient, well-structured and aligned with SpotHero’s growth and risk-management goals
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts (vendor services, SaaS/technology licensing, data privacy & cybersecurity, AI, operator/partner deals, marketing & promotional agreements, NDAs)
- Partner with internal stakeholders to identify, evaluate and manage legal and business risks in contracts while enabling business momentum
- Develop and maintain contract systems, templates, playbooks and workflows that enhance efficiency and consistency across the contract lifecycle
- Work directly with the General Counsel, gaining exposure to corporate governance, M&A, regulatory matters and broader legal strategy
- Work with Business Development, Revenue, Product, Engineering and Finance teams to support strategic initiatives and enable scaling of our commercial operations
- Ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements and internal policies
- Contribute to broader Legal team initiatives, including governance, policy development and continuous process improvement
- Take on stretch assignments that build your leadership and judgment capabilities
- Develop the skills and experience needed to advance within SpotHero’s Legal function as we scale
Our take
Finding a parking spot is an ever-increasing challenge, that is being solved by SpotHero, a platform which helps people find and book off-road parking across Canada and the US.
SpotHero is evolving with current trends by offering car-sharing and commercial fleet options, alongside partnering with Android Auto to increase its reservations and joining up with the navigation app Waze. It offers services to corporations too, and brings standardisation to the otherwise fragmented and often confusing parking industry.
As the only independent off-street parking marketplace in North America, SpotHero has established a robust infrastructure and is expanding its services and coverage. Part of this is in its recent partnership with Google, to integrate marketing reservations into Google Maps. This, along with its existing partnerships with platforms like Apple Maps, puts SpotHero in an exciting spot going forward.
