Who you are
- Professional Accounting qualification: ACCA, ACA, CPA, CIMA or similar
- Approximately 1 years’ post qualification experience in a similar organisation or environment
- Strong financial accounting background with a solid understanding of accounting principles and their practical application
- Experience working with ERP systems; exposure to Workday would be a distinct advantage
- Highly organised and adaptable, with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Able to work independently, take ownership of tasks through to completion, and consistently meet commitments while proactively seeking support when needed
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships in a distributed environment
- Detail-oriented with a proactive and continuous improvement mindset, including an interest in exploring new technologies and AI-enabled solutions to enhance ways of working
What the job involves
- Etsy is building the world’s most vibrant handmade marketplace, and we're looking for an Accountant to join the Accounting Team in Dublin
- We are seeking to support Etsy’s growth by ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and a strong and sustainable internal control environment
- Our goal is to contribute to Etsy at multiple levels by combining strong accounting and business senses while subscribing to Etsy’s mission and values

- This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior International Finance Manager
- This team plays an important role in supporting Etsy’s broader financial operations. We work cross-functionally with a variety of teams across the business and contribute to projects that help drive efficiency, accuracy, and scale
- Team members are collaborative, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement
- Manage day-to-day, monthly and quarterly International accounting activities
- You will be responsible for US GAAP and statutory accounting and compliance for several international Etsy subsidiaries
- Full ownership of US GAAP reporting: managing the month end close, Balance Sheet reconciliations & internal reporting for a number of Etsy International Entities
- Full ownership of local Statutory compliance: management of audit & preparation of Financial Statements ensuring full compliance with local legislation
- Perform monthly analytics for each subsidiary
- Driving continuous improvement through standardisation, automation, process reengineering, and the thoughtful adoption of AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
- You will partner across several teams in the company including working with international business partners; SEC reporting for external reporting; the treasury team on banking and liquidity for International entities; and the internal payroll team to ensure accurate & timely completion of monthly payroll
- Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law
Our take
Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.
Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.
However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. A hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers created significant discontent amongst sellers. Despite this, Etsy continues to connect artists and consumers, attracting shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
