Who you are
- You are passionate about building and improving products by experimenting, prototyping, and applying an iterative and data-driven approach to validate ideas and learn
- You are comfortable with ambiguity. This is a greenfield area for GoCardless and you will be joining us in the early stages of our journey!
- You are excited by the idea of solving problems and building products for our payers

- You have experience building web products and services, including experience working with front-end technologies (Typescript/JavaScript/React) and you have some experience with Ruby on the back-end

- You have a customer and product centric mindset, and are excited to deliver features to transform the payer experience
- You are data-driven and analytical
- You are enthusiastic about working in a strong culture of rapid experimentation, testing and peer review - in search of building value to payers, merchants and to GC
- You effectively collaborate with other engineering teams and business stakeholders
- You are a role model for the team, sharing your knowledge and experience
- You have a proven track record in mentoring and supporting other engineers

What the job involves
- The technical challenges of building GoCardless span from simplifying building banking schemes to optimising the time to render the dashboard
- We endeavour to build simple, reliable systems and we believe in using the best technologies for each task. Technologies we use across GoCardless include: Ruby on Rails, Golang, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Postgres, BigQuery, Kubernetes, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Google Cloud (GCP)
- We are a small, mighty and growing team that is responsible for developing GoCardless’ payer proposition, where we want to build and generate value from payer networks
- We want GoCardless to become the easiest, and most rewarding way for payers to pay. In turn we want to use the relationship we build with our payers to enhance our service for our merchants
- This means you’ll be exploring areas as varied as whether we can improve our paying experience, to whether we should offer rewards and incentives for paying with GoCardless
- This is a greenfield area for GoCardless, and will involve a high level of ambiguity, experimentation and cross-functional collaboration as we go on this journey to make GoCardless the easiest and most preferred way to pay

- Given the large number of hires we have been making in recent months, we have continuously reviewed both our hiring processes and channels to eliminate bias. We’ve introduced programs that attract diverse talent and we continuously seek to create hiring experiences that are fair, transparent and accessible by all
- We are working on creating a transparent framework for how we grow and develop talent in a scaling organisation. This will include bringing more clarity on internal career opportunities and provide clear expectations on the behaviours we want to see aligned to our values and commitment to building an inclusive organisation
- We have introduced systematic processes to help ensure compensation decisions are data-driven, fair and competitive. We have also invested in Reward capability and expertise to ensure we bring pay equity into every step of the employee journey
