Role
Who you are
- We’re seeking a detail-oriented, trend-aware designer who is a strong problem solver and can operate both autonomously and collaboratively
- The ideal candidate brings strong visual fundamentals and understands how to translate creative concepts into compelling, audience-first design that performs
- 3+ years of experience in visual design for digital platforms at a creative agency, production company, or in-house team
- Strong portfolio demonstrating performance-minded creative, campaign work, and/or audience-driven design
- Excellent typography, color, and layout skills, with a strong understanding of composition and visual hierarchy
- Understanding of how design impacts user behavior, engagement, and marketing performance
- Ability to design for diverse audiences with an awareness of both regional nuance and global appeal
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with marketing, video, product, and other creative teams
- Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator; familiarity with motion tools (After Effects, Premiere) is a plus
- Passion for storytelling, entertainment, and pop culture (comics, games, film, TV, animation)
What the job involves
- We’re looking for an exceptional Associate Visual Designer to join our international creative team, helping shape how audiences discover and engage with WEBTOON across platform, social, paid media, and real-world touchpoints
- This role is focused on creating high-impact, performance-driven design that attracts new audiences while deepening engagement with existing fans across channels
- They are able to balance regional nuance with global appeal, ensuring work resonates across diverse markets while contributing to scalable creative output
- Design high-impact creative across multiple channels, including platform (app, mobile, desktop), social, paid media, and marketing campaigns
- Create visually compelling assets that drive audience acquisition, engagement, and retention
- Translate series IP into clear, engaging visuals that communicate story, tone, and appeal to new audiences
- Partner with video and motion teams to concept and develop creative for performance-driven campaigns
- Collaborate closely with Art Directors, Creative Directors, marketers, and cross-functional partners in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
- Apply trend awareness and audience insights to develop work that feels culturally relevant and timely
- Contribute to creative ideation and execution for campaigns, launches, and key moments across the business
- Design across additional touchpoints as needed, including OOH, events, and promotional materials
- Manage multiple projects and priorities, maintaining clear communication and delivering high-quality work on time

Our take
Content is king and Wattpad has managed to create a platform that aggregates the most loved original writing content in the world, turning the traditional publishing industry on its head.
Where authors used to submit drafts to dozens of publishing houses in the hope of getting some eyeballs on their work, Wattpad opened up the process to millions of young authors by letting them easily submit their work, and fostering a community around their software that offers feedback and help.
The e-reading platform is now looking to double down on its strategy of taking its user-generated fiction and turning it into successful intellectual property upon which original series and movies can be based. However, a significant challenge for Wattpad is in producing original, marketable content from its platform, given the popularity of fanfiction, stories which are based on existing intellectual property.
Another challenge for Wattpad is the current economic conditions, which have affected much of the tech sector and are not sparing digital publishing. Having shelved bold plans for the future, it also laid off 15% of its workforce in March 2023. Having realigned for its current business needs, however, it is now well placed to weather the current market downturn.

He is also the co-founder of Two Small Fish Ventures, a fund that invests in Toronto and Waterloo-based early-stage internet companies with strong network effects.
Ivan Yuen
(Co-Founder)Prior to Wattpad, Ivan co-founded FeedM8 and served as the company’s CTO. Before that he was one of the first employees of Tira Wireless, where he helped grow the technical team and developed new and emerging wireless technologies. Ivan graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Computer Engineering and also earned an MBA from the Rotman School of Management.
