Role
Who you are
- JD and a member of a relevant U.S. state bar (California, Washington, Florida, New York) in good standing
- 5+ years relevant experience counseling technology product teams, with high-growth private company experience preferred - ability to bring best in class practices to the GlossGenius Legal Team
- Excellent analytical and legal skills, with track record of analyzing legal and regulatory requirements and effectively translating to technical requirements
- A team player: willingness to roll up your sleeves, with no task too big or too small across your projects
- Excellent prioritization and consensus building skills; ability to effectively manage and communicate regulatory risks in the context of business priorities
- High integrity and excellent judgement
- CIPP qualification and/or direct experience with HIPAA and payments regulation a plus
What the job involves
- GlossGenius is looking for a strategic and experienced Product Counsel to lead the product counsel and privacy functions within GlossGenius’ Legal Department.
- You will be a founding member of the growing in-house Legal team and will be responsible for designing and implementing the Legal team’s engagement model with the Product and Engineering teams.
- You will not only identify, analyze and mitigate legal risk, but you will be a pivotal member of the organization with an opportunity to define the long-term success of our product.
- You will have the support of Corporate Counsel and a Legal Operations Manager in-house, as well as resources to engage best-in-class outside counsel as appropriate and required
- Provide advice to the Product and Engineering teams on legal and compliance requirements that affect GlossGenius and its customers, including those related to data privacy, TCPA, HIPAA, artificial intelligence, and other consumer protection laws
- Partner with Product leadership to develop best-in-class methods for legal and privacy review of the product development process
- Lead GlossGenius’ privacy compliance program, working closely with the Security team on shared goals and objectives
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure compliance with relevant marketing and advertising regulations
- Draft, maintain and update internal policies and procedures, including building out contractual and procedural playbooks for privacy inquiries
- Prepare and deliver legal and compliance training for GlossGenius’ employees and executive leadership, as needed
- Effectively and cost-efficiently manage relationships with outside counsel
- Partner with corporate counsel and outside counsel on other projects as appropriate

However, despite a modern facade the beauty industry lacks specialised software and still runs on generic CRMs and basic spreadsheets. Recognising a gap in the market, GlossGenius has stepped in to provided a specialised business management platform for beauty salons, spas and studios.
With no competition in this niche, GlossGenius has swiftly captured a large market share, with triple-digit year on year revenue growth. It serves over 40,000 businesses (70% of which are women-owned) and has more than $2 billion in annual transactions on the platform.
GlossGenius has raised a large amount of capital in several funding rounds closed in quick succession. It is aiming to accelerate platform development off the back of its releasing of consumer experience, payment and automation products. It is well on the way to fulfilling its long-term aim of developing into the Toast of the beauty industry.
