Role
Who you are
- Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and frontend frameworks (React, Redux)
- Solid backend knowledge, ideally with Golang and/or NodeJS, plus experience with APIs and microservices
- Familiarity with AWS, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and serverless services
- An understanding of databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and scaling distributed systems
- Experience building and maintaining both frontend and backend infrastructure
- A proactive, collaborative approach – you like working with like-minded teammates across disciplines and sharing what you know
- An eye for continuous improvement, both in systems and processes
- Comfortable with ambiguity – you’re curious, adaptable, and eager to experiment in an incubator-style team, helping shape ambiguity into clarity
Desirable
- Have worked in a startup or scale-up environment
- Are used to operating as a Product Engineer, owning problems end-to-end, not just writing code
- Have the ability to pivot with enthusiasm and maintain speed when priorities shift
What the job involves
- At Cuvva, we run lean and highly collaborative, cross-functional product teams. As our new Full Stack Engineer, you’ll initially join our internal product incubator squad which focuses on exploring and developing new product opportunities for the business
- The team operates with a fast-pace and values autonomy and action, balancing discovery, delivery and is well suited to Engineers who are comfortable working through ambiguity, testing ideas quickly and learning through iteration
- Each product team owns their area of the Cuvva product end to end, with a high degree of autonomy & accountability. Teams are made up of cross-disciplinary engineers: Full Stack/Backend/iOS/Android/Cloud/Data Engineers, as well as, dedicated Product Designers & Product Managers + Engineering Managers
- As a Full Stack Engineer, you’ll work across both frontend and backend to design, build, and scale new products and features
- You’ll help bridge the gap between disciplines, collaborating with backend, web, product and design to deliver seamless, user-centric solutions
- You won’t just ship code, you’ll help shape how we work. Whether that’s building new features, new services, building out internal dashboards, expanding our design systems, or optimising developer experience
- You’ll move between product delivery and platform improvement, bringing a positive, proactive and collaborative mindset to the team
- Write clean, maintainable, scalable, and well-tested code across frontend and backend (React, Go, Node etc.)
- Collaborate closely with Designers, PMs, and fellow Engineers to scope, design, and deliver features end-to-end
- Build and maintain services, APIs, and internal dashboards that improve both customer experience and internal operations
- Support infrastructure changes, deployment pipelines, and automation initiatives
- Contribute to design systems and ensure pixel-perfect implementation on the frontend
- Proactively identify and solve both functional and technical problems in the product
- Share knowledge across teams, helping to raise the bar for the full stack discipline at Cuvva
- Participate in standups, retros, and team ceremonies, keeping work visible and moving smoothly
- Support onboarding of new joiners and contribute to improving our engineering practices

Our take
Car insurance hasn't traditionally worked around how people actually use their cars. Most policies lock drivers into annual contracts, even if they only need cover for a few hours of days. So Cuvva has set out to fill that gap with its app that lets drivers buy fully comprehensive isnurance by trhe hour, day or week. More than a million drivers have used it, and it's becoming especially popular among younger drivers who value flexibility over paperwork.
What began as a clever workaround has turned into a profitable business, as the company is backed by investors including RTP Global and Breega, allowing its to expand its product range and challenge bigger insurers. More recently, it reached profitability and then tripled adjusted profits to £12.8M in 2024, with turnover climbing to £27.4M. A huge part of that growth has come from building its own AI-powered systems in-house, which now handle the majority of customer queries and keep operating costs low.
Now Cuvva is pushing further into the mainstream through a partnership with Toyota Insurance Services Europe, bringing its short-term cover directly ot Toyota and Lexus drivers. It's a clear sign that flexible, app-based insurance is no longer just a niche alternative but something major car brands see value in and if Cuvva can keep pairing its tech-led efficiency with partnerships like this, then its on alcear path to becoming not just the UK's leading short-term insurer, but a much broader player in digital motor insurance.
