Mechanical Engineer Intern, Planet

• Pursuing a BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar
• Experience with Solidworks, geometric tolerancing, design for manufacture (DFM), Raspberry Pi/Arduino, prototyping (machine shop, 3d printing, etc.)
• Analytical/problem solving skills and ability to use statistical tools and techniques
• Organization, planning, communication, and time management skills
• Interest in working on high-reliability, space qualified hardware

• The Mechanical Engineering team at Planet is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to help drive the design of key spacecraft subsystems across Planet’s fleet of Earth-imaging satellites
• As an intern you will support the ME team in spacecraft design and testing efforts
• Under the mentorship of senior MEs and working cross-functionally with structural analysis, thermal engineering, and the reliability & qualification teams, you will be a contributor in Planet's agile aerospace approach to spacecraft design
• Provide support to design, engineering, prototyping, production, and validation activities for various programs at Planet
• Assist in developing and executing engineering and production tests to drive mechanical design and manufacturing process improvements
• Design and build test fixtures to support various space hardware programs
• Document and present work to multi-disciplinary collaborators and leadership
