Role
Who you are
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Extensive experience in software development, especially in managing high-demand, scalable software products
- Proven leadership experience in senior technical roles, with a history of managing and mentoring technical teams
- Expertise in relevant technologies, particularly Python, Go, PHP, Javascript and the AWS platform along with experience with modern development tools and methodologies
- Strong understanding of Frontend and Backend development, with the ability to collaborate across both disciplines
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and projects
- Strong communication and leadership abilities, capable of motivating teams and interfacing effectively with senior management
- Fluency in both German and English (written and spoken), with English as the primary language for development

- Experience working closely with the CTO in strategic decision-making and technical leadership
- Strong understanding of app and web development, with the ability to oversee projects from conception to deployment
- Highly organized with a structured, solution-oriented approach to project management and development workflows

What the job involves
- We are looking for an experienced Director of Engineering (m/f/x) to lead our technical teams and act as a vital link between our Chief Technology Officer and the technology teams
- You will ensure the successful execution of our technical strategy and oversee the development of high-quality, scalable software products
- Lead and manage the technology teams, ensuring close collaboration and alignment with the CTO
- Oversee software development processes, from architecture to delivery, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability
- Work closely with the CTO to define and execute the company's technical strategy
- Implement and promote best practices in software development, deployment, and maintenance
- Regularly review and optimize the architecture to ensure the robustness and scalability of all platforms
- Mentor and coach team leaders, fostering innovation, continuous improvement, and alignment with the company's goals
- Act as the technical point of contact for senior management, providing strategic updates and managing expectations
- Drive collaboration between the Frontend and Backend teams to ensure smooth and efficient development workflows
Our take
Though founded in 2014, German startup SIDES - or SimplyDelivery - found its footing in the early 2020s as app-based food delivery services became fully integrated into everyday life. SIDES develops the software used by restaurants, catering companies, takeaway, and these industry's customers, to manage and process orders and tasks in the digital space. Now used in five European countries, SIDES has acquired thousands of clients to date.
In 2022, SIDES partnered with STRIPE payment technology to add a secure payment platform to its software, bringing its platform into the realm of eCommerce. Whilst this is a significant development for the partly family-run start up, SIDES is still up against stiff competition from industry giants Uber Eats and Deliveroo, which it will need to overcome in order to realise its growth potential.
