Role
Who you are
- You are comfortable streamlining the team's engineering operations, refining product requirements together with product and merchants and encouraging effective collaboration
- An energetic self-starter alignment within your team
- You have experience with Kotlin or C++
- Passionate and experienced with embedded technology
- An excellent communicator and team player with strong technical aptitude
- Must be willing to travel, both domestically and internationally when required to meet with colleagues and/or merchant teams
- Someone who can clearly communicate about technical concepts to non-engineers
- 7+ years of experience in software development industry in a fast paced tech environment
- Full professional proficiency in English

- Adyen is the payments platform of choice for many of the world’s leading companies, providing a modern end-to-end infrastructure connecting directly to Visa, Mastercard, and consumers' globally preferred payment methods
- Adyen delivers frictionless payments across online, mobile, and in-store channels. With offices across the world, Adyen serves customers including Facebook, Uber, Spotify and L'Oreal
- As the Engineering Manager, you will build, mentor, and coach a diverse, talented team
- As a critical role in the continued success of our organization, you will help to iterate our culture and build an amazing team environment that will create future leaders for Adyen
- Work cross-functionally with design, product, data engineers, engineers and other key stakeholders within Payments
- Have a multiplier effect by motivating team members and providing coaching in areas including but not limited to: engineering best practices, scalable architecture design, product roadmap discussions
- Maintain an inclusive team culture focused on autonomy, ownership, collaboration, communication, and impact
- Set clear individual and team goals that align with our strategic engineering ambitions in close collaboration with the product manager
- Create an inspiring and collaborative team environment with an open communication/feedback culture
- Recruit new team members in line with the Adyen culture and required skills

Our take
Adyen has been one of the most successful businesses in Europe over the last decade. When it went public in 2018 at a valuation of €7bn, it raised over €1bn and its share price popped on the first day, resulting in a valuation of €14bn. Its valuation has continued to climb by the billions.
Adyen competes with large players like PayPal, as well as outsized startups like Stripe, to power payments and provide other infrastructure to conduct digital transactions. Disrupters in the field have been buoyed by a strong rise in eCommerce activity, where some or all of a transaction by a customer is made either online or by mobile.
Adyen has been one of the companies riding the wave by helping to reduce the friction between a company choosing to take payments online, and actually being able to do it. That can take multiple steps and agreements across numerous countries — Adyen’s pitch is that it essentially handles all of it in the backend as a service for its users. Notable partners have included Autocanteen, a touchless self-checkout solution for the hospitality industry, and BILL, a small business-focused fintech platform.
