Who you are
- Desire and drive to own large portions of the application from start to finish

- Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 6+ years of experience working with cross-functional software development teams, including managing and leading engineering teams
- Experience shipping and iterating on production-grade software components professionally and / or in the open-source community
- Ability to write robust, well tested, and well-designed code that frequently gets deployed to users
- Solid understanding of architecting and scaling distributed software systems
- Strong best practices in modern software development and comfort navigating large codebases
- Located in New York and open to working in office
What the job involves
- We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our core engineering teams. You’ll work cross-functionally with design and product management to build systems that are robust, scalable, and user-centered. Our teams tackle a range of challenges, from enabling real-time user collaboration on detailed maps to building high-scale backend architecture for ingesting billions of data points
- We value both ownership and collaboration—you will take full responsibility for major features and work closely with other engineers to drive them to completion. - We’re looking for an Engineering Team Lead to join our growing team and drive impactful projects, foster an inclusive team culture, and lead technical decision-making
- This role is for someone who thrives in both people management and hands-on technical leadership. You’ll develop a high-performing team, guide them through complex technical challenges, and ensure their work aligns with our business priorities. The ideal candidate will balance mentorship while maintaining high standards in technical execution
- You’ll drive impactful work that delivers value to our customers, from aiding emergency responders during a hurricane to diffusing complex organized crime. We are building innovative capabilities that enable new workflows for our customers. As a leader, you will ensure that we execute well on these initiatives
- Our stack is constantly evolving but based on a backend foundation of Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, and Kafka; a frontend built in React, Redux, and Mapbox; data stores including PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch; machine learning models hosted in Bedrock and Sagemaker; and with AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, and Kubernetes as our underlying infrastructure
Our take
The digitisation of emergency response organisations, data and incident reporting is speeding up, but this presents a problem if this information is not digestible. Emergency responders must be able to quickly translate and understand information as it comes in, or risk this faster flow of data being made redundant.
Peregrine is a data integration platform that improves emergency responses by making data more accessible, understandable and actionable. The platform can be used for public safety at different scales, such as building, city or region-wide. Its machine learning capabilities are also able to collate raw surveillance data, linking people, places and events to track targets or potential criminal activity.
With a founding team that boasts experience in both security and environmental risk analysis, Peregrine shows the potential to bridge the gap between tech and law enforcement. And funding is being channelled into accelerating the company's growth as it looks to double its employee headcount in the near future.
