Staff ML Engineer, Waymo

• B.S. in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• Minimum of 5 years Machine Learning experience (preferably in Mapping)
• Hands-on machine learning experience - ideally on image recognition problems
• Willingness to own problems end-to-end and work on various parts of the system
• A passion for good software engineering

Desirable

• The Waymo Mapping team's goal is to build a high resolution map of the world to support safe autonomous driving
• We work on creating the map using a combination of automatic and manual techniques and build the infrastructure to store, process, and distribute the map
• Our team collaborates with several other Waymo teams that consume map data
• Build backend infrastructure for storing and processing many forms of map data
• Apply the latest machine learning technology to generate maps from raw data
• Improve our internal tools for viewing and editing maps
• Scale our systems to support mapping the whole world

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company that began as the Google self-driving car project in 2009. After initial development, it secured permits to deploy autonomous ride-hailing services in cities including Phoenix and San Francisco, but has recently hit a major bump in the road with safety concerns that resulted in a recall of over 400 self-driving cars.
