Dutch-based Bunq has established itself as one of the leading challengers to the incumbent banking system in Europe.
Unlike other Neobanks like N26 and Monzo, Bunq grew to a 200+ team without taking on outside funding until 2021, allowing it to develop a culture of laser user focus which has further allowed them to generate revenue from an impressive number of subscription-paying users.
The company is now seeking to grow further internationally especially inorganically through the acquiring of adjacent Neobanks and banking services. Through its funding and acquisitions the company has since achieved Unicorn status.
While the bank has managed to acquire an impressive number of users across Europe, like all Neobanks they are facing a fightback from incumbent banks who are adopting best practices and eroding the differentiators that have propelled Bunq’s success.
