Role
Who you are
- Fluent in English and ideally French/ German/ Dutch
- 2–5 years’ experience in finance operations, accounts, or administrative roles
- Comfortable managing AP/AR independently and maintaining accurate records
- Strong attention to detail, organisation, and proactive problem-solving
- Confident communicator with customers, team members, and external partners
- Exposure to insurance, debt recovery, or subrogation processes (preferred)
- Empathy for customers and understanding of impact when claims occur
- Fast learner, adaptable, and comfortable working in a startup environment
What the job involves
- This is a varied and high-impact role within the Finance team and Ancillary Services team, covering finance operations, insurance recovery, and office support
- You’ll work closely with the Financial Controller, Subrogation Lead and Head of People, to ensure financial accuracy, strong cash management, smooth day-to-day operations, and effective subrogation and claims processes
- Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including bookkeeping, invoicing and payment runs
- Monitor outstanding balances, manage credit control, and maintain bank reconciliations
- Support month-end close, including accruals and prepayments
- Assist with audit preparation and finance process improvements
- Screen and validate subrogation claims, preparing comprehensive claim files
- Liaise with third parties, insurers, legal contacts, and Ancillary Services team to chase recoveries
- Track recoveries, maintain reporting, and support cash recovery forecasting
- Identify and resolve issues that may delay or hinder the subrogation process
- Coordinate company meetings, events, and team socials
- Support onboarding administration and general operational needs
- Assist leadership team with ad hoc tasks
Our take
More and more people are switching to bikes, eBikes, and scooters for their everyday travel, yet insurance hasn't quite kept up. Traditional insurance can be quite expensive, unclear, and not designed for how people actually use these vehicles. Riders often face high excess fees, complicated claims, and limited support if their bike is stolen or damaged. At the same time, the fast-growing "green mobility" market is still pretty fragmented, making it harder to find simple, reliable coverage.
Laka is trying to fix this with a different approach to insurance, so, instead of charging fixed premiums, it uses a collective model where customers only pay for the actual cost of claims each month, making pricing fairer. Alongside offering coverage, it works closely with brands and retailers, integrating its insurance directly into the buying experience.
Recently, the company raised some serious funding, which will be used to support its growth across Europe and to explore acquisitions. Already operating in multiple countries, the company is aiming to become a leading insurer in the fast-growing micromobility space. With strong partnerships and a focus on fairness and sustainability, Laka is in a great position to expand further and shape how insurance works for green forms of transport in the future.
