Who you are
- University degree required; qualified accountant (CPA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) preferred, with experience in financial planning, analysis, strategy, controllership, and corporate finance
- Strong accounting knowledge and analytical skills with a solid understanding of financial statements and commercial acumen
- Fluent English speaker with excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to engage senior stakeholders effectively
- Proactive self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, working independently under pressure
What the job involves
- As a Group FP&A Manager, you’ll contribute to JM’s mission as a world leader in sustainable technology, transforming energy and reducing carbon emissions for a cleaner, brighter future
- Leading strategic and financial planning processes including 10-year strategy, annual budgeting, scenario and sensitivity analysis, ensuring alignment with business goals and external requirements
- Driving financial analysis and reporting including forecasts, variance and profitability analysis, delivering insights for performance improvement and decision-making
- Collaborating with senior management and stakeholders to support strategic initiatives, budget cycles, cross-functional projects, and resolution of internal performance issues
- Enhancing FP&A tools, processes, and skillsets, improve data capture and analysis efficiency at Group level, and support continuous improvement in planning capabilities

Founded in 1817, UK-based Johnson Matthey has built on over 200 years of experience in chemistry and materials to become a world leader in sustainable technologies. It was responsible for scientific milestones such as producing the first emission control catalyst, greatly reducing vehicle exhaust emissions. From relatively humble beginnings it has since grown into a global business, present in more than 30 countries.
Perhaps a victim of its own success, Johnson Matthey has struggled in recent years with issues related to over-expansion including an unprofitable battery materials division and inefficient management. By reducing its administrative headcount, slimming down to its core business and focusing on emerging green technologies, Johnson Matthey hopes to reduce costs and allow it to compete more effectively against major rivals such as Croda and Ceres.
So far this strategy has paid dividends, with Johnson Matthey returning to the FTSE 100 in late 2022. With its core business booming, it is aiming to focus on research into sustainable catalysts and renewable fuel cell technology which will enable it to increase the 90% of its products that are contributing to a greener economy to 100% by 2040.
