Who you are

Proven experience in working with unstructured data
Work experience in modelling with time-series data
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline: economics, finance, statistics or computer science
Be familiar with methods such as linear and non-linear aggression, multivariate analysis and machine learning libraries
Proficiency in Python and its main libraries (i.e. Pandas, Numpy etc.) and experience with SQL for data retrieval and management. Any other coding languages are welcome
Prior experience in working with GitHub, BigQuery and Jira
Be able to work independently with minimal supervision error-free
High written and verbal English proficiency
Have a creative /critical mindset. Ready to challenge ideas and be challenged
Live within +3/-5 time zones of GMT

What the job involves

We are looking for a data scientist to join our Research team
In this role you’ll have real responsibility and the opportunity to make an impact by working with our proprietary alternative data to create new products for the financial sector
Part of your role will include interacting with world-leading institutional investors
You will be responsible for deriving valuable insights from web traffic and e-receipt data, as well as shaping new products for the financial sector
You will be working in the research team, whose objective is to create innovative research while ensuring that the products we develop are suitable for our clients
You will be exposed to clients requests to help position Gener8 as a thought leader in the alternative data market
Manage big and unstructured datasets using SQL and/or Python
Use statistic and econometric methods to create finance and economics stories
Create codes that are easy to update and be deployed in production
Calculate sample statistics and derive statistical properties of the sample
Derive insights and compelling stories from descriptive statistics or model results
Apply data transformation (i.e., cleaning, standardisation, feature engineering and normalisation)
Designing and implementing models and data pipelines
Perform hypothesis-driven questions to determine the best course of action for a particular problem
Write relevant documentation about findings from the analyses
Answer clients' ad-hoc requests

The company offers internet users a range of products including a browser, app an and existing browser extension, in which they can elect to share their anonymised data in return for redeemable rewards or simply browse in total privacy. The appeal for advertisers is the promise of a more personal approach, reaching only those who would be interested in their products.

Amidst all the noise surrounding data privacy, Gener8’s solution is a clever one. Indeed, the company gained immense traction after an appearance on BBC’s Dragons’ Den which went viral, and was hailed the show’s best ever pitch. Unsurprisingly, the TV appearance led to a successful funding round, which helped the company to accelerate growth. Further funds have also been secured that have supported the launch of Gener8's app as it looks to disrupt the big tech giants.
