What the job involves
- ClickUp, a leading productivity platform, is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Manager to lead our Chat team
- This dynamic full-stack engineering team specializes in developing robust features that streamline the usage and administration of a brand new communications app within our app
- The Chat team is a remote, full-stack team of six dedicated engineers, evenly divided between front-end and back-end development
- The team uses React and Angular to create intuitive user interfaces, and develops scalable services with Node.js, all operating on an AWS infrastructure
- In addition to these talented individuals, the team is supported by a dedicated QA specialist and a Product Manager, ensuring high-quality outputs and clear direction
- Collaboration is at the heart of the Chat team's success, requiring seamless interaction not only within the team but also with peer teams based in the US to align strategies and achieve company-wide goals
- Visionary Leadership and Team Building: Assemble and lead a highly skilled team of engineers with expertise in real-time communication technologies
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and openness to embrace the challenges of building a novel chat application
- Strategic Planning and Execution: Define and execute the product development roadmap from concept to launch, aligning with ClickUp's mission and user needs
- Prioritize features and tasks to efficiently manage resources and timelines
- Technical Excellence and Innovation: Ensure the application sets a benchmark in performance, reliability, and user experience
- Drive the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and architectural patterns that facilitate scalability, security, and seamless integration with ClickUp's ecosystem
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, designers, and customer success teams to gather user feedback, understand market demands, and iterate on the product design and functionality
- Champion a user-centered design approach
- Fostering a culture of continuous improvement through code reviews, design discussions, and performance optimization
- Managing timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation effectively

Clickup provides a set of professional tools for collaborative project management, spreadsheets, document processing and workplace communication which are accessed from a single platform. In contrast to most of the austere, pared-back tools you might find in the workplace, it takes a playful approach, with its programs looking more like fun consumer-focused apps while still being fully-featured.
The company isn't alone in the workplace productivity market, counting Asana, Jira, Slack, and Monday among just a few of its competitors. However its advantage comes from its unified platform which encourages users to stay in ClickUp's ecosystem rather than look outside for other tools. Indeed, the vast majority of its users utilise three or more of its products. This has led to strong success in its market, with over 800,000 teams using the platform in enterprises such as IBM, logitech and Spotify.
ClickUp has been the beneficiary of a significant amount of investment, which it has used to develop its product and expand internationally. As it grows its footprint in Asia and Europe, where nearly half of its customers are based, it has also unveiled a new version of its platform which integrates AI writing and advanced search tools.
