Role
Who you are
- 10+ years of experience in threat hunting, SIEM management, and incident response
- Experience building content for multiple SIEM platforms
- Demonstrated ability to self-learn and quickly evaluate and adapt new technologies and address emerging threats
- Proficiency in developing and maintaining tools using Python along with experience with debugging tools
- Strong skills in data analysis, including experience with SQL
- Knowledge of anomaly detection techniques and real world experience applying that knowledge
- Passion for diving into the details of a problem and identifying an answer
- Pragmatic approach to solving problems with a theoretical grounding
- Bonus points for experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform/Terragrunt
- Bonus points for any offsec experience, red teaming, pen testing, OSCP, etc
What the job involves
- The Ava Labs Security team is looking for an experienced and versatile SIEM Detection Engineer
- Ava Labs defends against a unique threat landscape with adversaries getting more sophisticated and creative each day
- As part of the Security team, you will be a frontline defender and help architect our security infrastructure
- You will use your expertise to anticipate and thwart threats, turning the tide in our favor
- Your experience as a defender will be vital in building and fortifying the foundation of our defense strategy, enabling us to stay one step ahead of potential threats
- By developing innovative detection capabilities and automating security operations, you’ll play a critical role in safeguarding our systems against adversaries
- Integrate relevant log sources from various systems and applications to ensure comprehensive data collection
- Develop and optimize detection rules, alerts, and dashboards for effective threat hunting
- Perform data analysis to identify anomalies and potential security incidents
- Automate security operations and incident response processes to scale the capabilities of the team
- Participate in an on-call rotation as a first responder to incidents requiring human intervention
- Research and develop custom tooling to enhance security monitoring and response capabilities
- Stay up-to-date with emerging threats, vulnerabilities and technologies to improve detection and response strategies
- Contribute to the improvement of security policies, procedures, and documentation

Ava Labs’ open-source platform Avalanche enables companies to launch decentralized applications with all the benefits of blockchain, whilst processing a record-smashing 4,500 transactions per second. The company's strategy has been to tailor its blockchain to specific applications, establishing a reputation in the sector through efficient hard-and-fast use cases with low fees. This has allowed it to operate alongside blockchain giants like Ethereum that hoard large amounts of the DeFi market.
In answering the strong appetite for a cheaper and more scalable blockchain consensus, Ava Labs has found a keen audience, and secured the ability to pursue its goal of opening the space up to more users. The Avalanche platform has become the first to partner with Amazon Web Services, becoming part of a project to bring blockchain technology to government and enterprises. The company also partnered with digital identity verification provider Blockpass, to collaborate towards furthering the safety, security and capabilities of the ecosystem.
