Role
Who you are
- Have a background working in a customer-facing technical role (TAM, solutions engineer, success engineer, or similar)
- You have experience working with some of the languages we interact with most often (Next.js, React, JavaScript, Node.js, Go and shadcn)
- You’re comfortable engaging both technical (developers, architects) and business (PMs, execs) stakeholders
- You can debug technical workflows, read APIs/SDKs, and confidently guide enterprise customers through implementation decisions
- You communicate clearly, empathetically, and with authority — whether in email, Slack, or live calls
- You balance technical problem-solving with a forward-looking focus on customer outcomes and account health
- Thrive in a cross-functional, collaborative environment
- Bonus: Experience in developer tools, authentication/identity, or supporting enterprise SaaS customers at scale
What the job involves
- As our first Technical Account Manager, you’ll partner with our most strategic customers to ensure they’re successful at every stage — from onboarding through scaling and beyond
- You’ll combine technical expertise with a users-first mindset to help customers integrate Clerk seamlessly and grow their usage over time
- You’ll also be their voice to internal teams like product and engineering and identify ways to help improve Clerk
- Because this is a founding role, you’ll also play a key part in defining what Technical Account Management looks like at Clerk — setting standards, building frameworks, and shaping how we engage with customers as we scale
- Serve as the primary technical partner for our top accounts, ensuring smooth onboarding, integration, and adoption
- Troubleshoot technical challenges, while focusing on long-term solutions for strategic customers
- Act as a trusted advisor: share best practices, recommend features, and guide customers toward maximizing Clerk’s value
- Track account health metrics, anticipate risks, and proactively address issues before they become blockers
- Represent the voice of the customer internally, shaping Clerk’s product roadmap and go-to-market motion
- Define and evolve Clerk’s Technical Account Management function — from processes to tooling to metrics — as the founding team member
Our take
Authentication is only part of the story when it comes to user management. Developers using API tools also face the complex UI and management issues of additional features like user sign-up, sign-in, and session management, to name a few. Clerk was founded to make this simpler, reducing hours of work to minutes using pre-built React components.
Clerk stands out in a market dominated by the likes of Auth0 and OneSpan with its focus on React rather than API. This taps into a growing number of developers working with Jamstack rather than trying to wrestle customers away from market incumbents - a smart move which has seen its userbase swell by five times, growing to over a million developers.
This rapid growth has attracted investors, and Clerk closed a Series B round in 2024. This funding is being used to expand the company's services into authorisation - determining a user's permissions as opposed to simply identifying them. As account security and management will continue to be a major focus for developers going forward, Clerk is well positioned to grow into a major player in this space, especially as it continues to expand its product range.
