Though it’s crucial for enterprises to be able to quickly view business performance metrics, the creators of Rill maintain that the traditional Business Intelligence (BI) stack isn’t fit for purpose.
They might be onto something too. Two of the major drawbacks with most dashboards is that they usually sit on top of an external database, and data analysts often have to design the dashboard interface themselves. Rill takes care of both problems by using its own data engine, and offering a simple, consistent dashboard design.
Rill’s founding team previously co-founded Metamarkets, an SaaS analytics platform for digital media marketplaces, which was acquired for just under $100 million by Snapchat parent company Snap in 2017. While at Metamarkets they also created the well known open source database Apache Druid, which actually powers Rill.
Having launched in 2020, Rill has built up a solid customer base which includes the likes of Comcast, Triton, and Cloudera. It’s also received investment led by True Ventures, which it intends to use to fund a new open source product to simplify the data-to-dashboard process.
