Role
Who you are
- 🕐 You have spent a meaningful time (5+ years) as a hands-on SRE, DevOps, or Platform Engineer with production experience on AWS or GCP, Infrastructure as Code tooling (Terraform, Pulumi, or equivalent), database scaling (Postgres or equivalent), and multi-region infrastructure management
- 🤖 You love building robust, scalable system. Reliability and performance are your craft
- 🦾 You have significant expertise scaling cloud platforms. You have already operated infrastructure that handled large, unpredictable traffic at scale
- 💃 You are passionate about entertainment: enabling 150k+ people to get into a show without a hitch is your kind of challenge
- 🤝 You communicate clearly with the rest of the tech team. You see developer experience as a core part of your job and take pride in empowering engineers to ship faster and with confidence

What the job involves
- As Shotgun grows, so does our ambition. We're branching out into new territories, inaugurating fresh ventures, and, in the process, assembling new teams. Our pathway to success lies in our analytical rigor and exhaustive exploration of every opportunity
- You are Shotgun's first dedicated SRE. Your mission is to build a production-grade cloud infrastructure that scales with our ambition, so every team ships with confidence, traffic spikes don't become incidents, and developers spend time building product, not fighting the platform. You own the foundation: cloud architecture, scalability, observability, security, and developer tooling
- Build and own a production-grade cloud infrastructure. Compute, networking, CDN, DNS, secrets management, all built with Infrastructure as Code tooling from day one
- Design auto-scaling infrastructure that absorbs sharp traffic peaks without manual intervention. We sell 150k+ tickets/hour at peak, it must hold
- Own the full observability stack: metrics, logs, traces, SLI dashboards, and SLO-based alerting that catches incidents before users notice
- Build and own the incident response process: post-mortems, severity SLAs, on-call rotation for peak events, and systematic MTTR reduction
- Harden the platform through security best practices: least-privilege IAM, secrets management, CI/CD scanning and compliance posture (SOC 2)
- Build golden-path IaC templates so engineers self-serve environments in minutes and improve CI/CD speed
Our take
If you're organising an event, there's no shortage of ticket companies offering to manage booking and boost sales. However, the industry overall is somewhat outdated, with complicated interfaces putting off both organisers and customers. Founded in 2014, Shotgun is an attempt to redress this with intuitive software and a ticketing marketplace that meets the changing needs of modern event organisers and their fans.
Competing against larger players such as Dice and Resident Advisor, Shotgun stands out with its laser focus on the 18-25 year old event-going market. Catering to a crowd used to on-demand music services with expectations of lower costs and more exciting shows (research shows younger event-goers are far more likely to leave early if they're unhappy), Shotgun has invested heavily in social features and its mobile app experience to keep fans engaged.
It's seen great success too, with over 8M users on its app and tens of thousands of organisers worldwide. As other ticketing services struggle to capture the younger party crowd, Shotgun has captured an early lead in this space that it should be able to continue to build on.
